The ABC's of ADHD: C is for Consequences/ Choices

Session 5: ABC of ADHD

C is for Consequences/ Choices

When we think about consequences we are often directed toward negative elements. This could be something a child loses in the sense of a privilege or the removal of a luxury item like screen time or video games. What we need to keep in mind is that consequences and choice are also positive. They provide social emotional learning for children. Through choice that children make they learn if a tool is helpful and successful. As we guide and teach children we have to remember that they look to use to help understand how to do things and what tools they need to make these choice again in the future.

Weekly Handouts

Below are the handouts for this weeks. When we are exploring how consequences will work with our children we need to remember our role as a parent is "to teach" and with that our children need to have explained to them what we expect from them as well as what we expect from them in different situations.

Parent Reflection:

As part 2 to the Parent Triage homework we want to set a plan for how we will change certain behaviours that are a struggle for our children. In doing this we need to take some baby steps that takes reflection, selection and planning with our child's input. Everyone needs to be on board with the plan and what is being worked on. Also we need to create incentives that would help celebrate the success.
